Education = Empowerment

Preventative education works! Consider having us visit your school to education young adults on healthy relationships. We can provide one-time grade-level presentations through interactive learning activities such as In Their Shoes and Deal Breakers.

• In Their Shoes is an engaging way to talk about healthy and unhealthy relationship with young people in what class period.
• We developed "Deal Breakers" as an interactive dating violence prevention program for middle and high school students to identify both healthy and unhealthy relationship characteristics.
• Safe Dates is a 6-8 week research based program that benefits small groups of students with a more in-depth study of healthy adolescent relationships. Positive outcomes include improved attitudes and behaviors among teens.
• Love is Not Abuse, created for high school groups, highlights the different types and warning signs of dating abuse. For example: how to help a friend in need, and how or when to confront someone engaging in harassing behaviors.

Domestic Violence in Later Life is to support adults 60 years and older who are victims and survivors of domestic violence, exploitation, and/or neglect. Our work is advanced by generating an understanding of the dynamics of abuse in later life by using a survivor-centered, intersectional, and trauma-informed approach.

Domestic violence within the LGBTQ+ community is unique compared to other communities. Abusive partners and loved ones utilize tactics of abuse that are specific to LGBTQ+ people and relationships. Learn more on how to support our LGBTQ+ friends.

We can educate healthcare professionals to screen and support patients who may be experiencing an unhealthy relationship. Our department offers tangible tools to talk with and connect patients to local resources.

Are you interested in becoming a certified domestic violence advocate? Consider participating in the state mandated 45-hour JARS training. This training is mandatory for all agency volunteers and employees.

The Domestic Abuse Project of Delaware County partners with local police departments to provide Lethality Assessment Program (LAP) training. Connecting victims of domestic violence to local agencies to ensure safety and support through their experiences. This training also allows us to strengthen our relationship with law enforcement officials who are commonly the first contact victims have when seeking help. Click here for more information.

We are here to support communities rooted in faith to facilitate the tough conversations around domestic violence and supportive responses. Invite us to speak with your place of worship to educate your community on the red flags of domestic violence for congregants’ wholistic safety.

If a patient seeks medical attention due to a domestic violence incident, we are here to advocate on their behalf and connect them to services. Our team will provide one-on-one in person advocacy to discuss safety planning options and next steps.
