As DAP’s staff and volunteers navigate the uncertainty of these trying times, we are grateful for our new foundation of core values. Last year while attending PANO’s conference, I learned about the importance of core values in staff culture and how a set of core values that were ingrained in an organization could set the pace for better staff engagement, better impact on providing services and a better culture within.
Upon returning from the conference I was eager to bring the idea of adopting core values to DAP. Our new executive director, Julie Avalos, MSW was on board with no hesitation. She shared my excitement to move DAP into this phase and get started!
We wanted to make sure the entire staff contributed toward the core values: what they mean, how they can change the culture and impact the decisions we make on a daily basis. We gathered together at our “all staff” meeting and put our minds to work. We have an awesome staff and the values they brought to the table were amazing!
Our next step was to form a Core Values Committee. The committee was comprised of staff members from each department. Our task was to evaluate the ideas of all staff, narrow it to 6-8 core values and elaborate on these values. After many meetings and feedback from our Board of Directors our core values were finalized and approved.
Thank you to the Board of Directors, Core Values Committee, and staff for your input, ideas and inspiration to incorporate DAP’s new core values into our everyday lives.
