Services We Provide

1. Counseling Services

DAP staff offers short- and long-term supportive/educational counseling, as well as therapeutic counseling designed to address the emotional barriers that make it difficult to leave an abusive relationship. DAP counselors also facilitate support groups that provide clients with the opportunity to process their experiences with others confronting domestic abuse.

2. Hotline Service

DAP staff provide immediate crisis intervention, information and referral on a 24/7 basis. Call 610-565-4590.

3. Housing Services

DAP provides emergency shelter to adults and their dependent children at imminent risk of physical abuse. In addition to safe housing, residents receive a range of supportive services. DAP's transitional housing program offers longer-term subsidized housing and intensive case management which support families as they seek to become self-sufficient and live free from abuse.

4. Legal Services

DAP provides advocacy and support in filing for temporary Protection From Abuse (PFA) orders and provides representation for clients at permanent PFA hearings. With generous support from Mellon Mid-Atlanic Charitable Trust, DAP attorneys began representation in custody matters in 2007. DAP offers accompaniment and advocacy for victims involved in criminal proceedings against their abusers. Members of law enforcement, employed by DAP, train local law enforcement officers on best practices and protocols for handling domestic abuse cases.

5. Medical Advocacy

DAP Medical Advocates are on call 24 hours a day to provide options and crisis counseling to victims of abuse in Delaware County hospitals. Medical Advocates also train local healthcare professionals, from all disciplines, including physicians, to screen patients and recognize the signs of abuse.

6. Welfare Advocacy

DAP's Welfare Advocate provides options, information, and advocacy to victims of domestic abuse within the welfare system and educates welfare personnel about domestic abuse.

7. Prevention Education and Community Outreach

Specialized educational programs are provided to community organizations, schools, and religious groups to increase public awareness about domestic abuse. Literature on domestic abuse is distributed at presentations, health fairs, and other community events.

8. Clinical Training / Educational Programs

Through support by All State Foundation and All State Insurance, DAP provides TANF recipients and shelter residents with Financial Literacy Counseling in order to increase their ability to move toward economic self-sufficiency. An enhanced Economic Empowerment Program that offers ongoing training and a heightened financial program for targeted clients of the Agency's Emergency Shelter and Transitional Housing Program is also supported by All State Foundation and All State Insurance.

9. Volunteer Program

DAP depends on the support of volunteers. Our volunteers receive extensive training in several specific areas of service and are provided with meaningful ways to help abused persons and prevent domestic abuse.

10. 911 Cell Phone Program

DAP provides cell phones capable of dialing 911 at no cost to DAP clients, through the Verizon Hopeline program. To donate a phone, contact the Verizon dealer in your area.

11. Workplace Violence Program

DAP provides workplace consulting and technical assistance services to local businesses on domestic abuse in the workplace. Supported by the Boeing Employees Community Fund, call 610-565-6272 for more information or to schedule a presentation.
